POSITION: Solid Waste Supervisor
SEASON: Austral Summer October - February
LOCATION: McMurdo Station, Antarctica
SECTOR/DEPT: Six Mile, LLC Antarctica
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. The Solid Waste Supervisor oversees operations at the solid-waste barn and the workflow of the department.
2. The supervisor is responsible for the organization of the solid-waste barn, ensuring that applicable SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) are being followed, and that safety standards are being met.
3. The supervisor will maintain and update the Solid Waste Tracking spreadsheet and ensure quality control of the data being inputted.
4. Depending on the skill set of the Waste Stream Coordinator's, the supervisor might be coordinating daily tasking.
5. The supervisor must have the proper training and be familiar with the established protocol for solid-waste barn activities.
6. The supervisor will also serve as a Spill Team Member and is on call for one week out of every four, twenty-four hours a day.
7. Responsible for the safe and technically proficient operation of equipment such as articulating loaders, graders, fork-lifts, tracked agricultural tractors, dump-trucks, excavators, etc.
8. Performs daily equipment checks to ensure all equipment is properly maintained and in safe operating condition.
9. Complies with all ASC Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements.
10. Performs physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of tall vehicles and heavy equipment, crawling as needed, working outdoors in extreme cold, and walking long distances daily. Snow shoveling, ice-chipping, and other forms of manual labor required.
11. Accurately records time worked, and equipment hours used daily in Maximo.
12. Performs other duties as required.
13. Reports to Manager, Solid Waste.
