Senior WordPress Developer
We are seeking a seasoned WordPress developer to join our team as a Senior WordPress Developer.
This is a key role that requires expertise in architecting, building, and optimizing membership websites on WordPress using MemberPress as the core membership engine. As a Senior WordPress Developer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing custom plugins, shortcodes, API integrations, and backend features to meet client business needs.
You will conduct full-stack performance audits and implement optimizations to improve Core Web Vitals and user experience. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with design and marketing teams to advise on technical feasibility and suggest scalable solutions.
The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of proven experience developing custom WordPress solutions (themes, plugins, REST API integrations) and 2+ years of direct, hands-on experience working with MemberPress at scale. You will also have expertise in modern PHP development practices (object-oriented programming, Composer, namespacing, error handling), a deep understanding of WordPress security, performance optimization, and SEO best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
* Architect, build, and optimize membership websites on WordPress using MemberPress as the core membership engine.
* Design and implement custom plugins, shortcodes, API integrations, and backend features to meet client business needs.
* Conduct full-stack performance audits and implement optimizations to improve Core Web Vitals and user experience.
* Collaborate closely with design and marketing teams to advise on technical feasibility and suggest scalable solutions.
* Own deployment workflows, version control, and environment management across staging and production instances.
* Proactively identify technical debt, performance bottlenecks, or security risks and recommend long-term solutions.
* Write clear documentation for technical configurations, processes, and support handoffs.
* Participate in code reviews, feedback cycles, and technical discussions with the broader engineering team.
Requirements:
* 5+ years of proven experience developing custom WordPress solutions (themes, plugins, REST API integrations).
* 2+ years of direct, hands-on experience working with MemberPress at scale.
* Expertise in modern PHP development practices (object-oriented programming, Composer, namespacing, error handling).
* Deep understanding of WordPress security, performance optimization, and SEO best practices.
* Familiarity with caching layers (Redis, Varnish, WP Rocket) and CDNs like Cloudflare.
* Experience with basic DevOps tools (Docker, GitHub Actions, CI/CD pipelines).
* Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable working directly with stakeholders.
* Full availability to work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, fully aligned with Eastern Time Zone (ET).
