Why does the job exist?
The position will provide physical therapy interventions as prescribed by a licensed physician. Interventions aim to restore function and prevent disability following injury, disease, or physical impairments.
How does it get done?
Plan, prepare, or carry out individually designed programs of physical treatment to maintain, improve, or restore physical functioning, alleviate pain, or prevent physical dysfunction in patients.
Perform and document an initial exam, evaluate data to identify problems, and determine a diagnosis prior to intervention. Evaluate effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit. Identify and document goals, anticipated progress, and plans for reevaluation. Record prognosis, treatment, response, and progress in the patient's chart or enter information into computer.

Residents at a long-term care facility.
Ideal Candidate
Will have:
* The ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
* The ability to function independently, with flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
* Licensed as a Physical Therapist in the State of New Mexico OR eligible to be licensed in New Mexico before the date of hire.
Employment Requirements
This position is safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing in accordance with federal and state laws, rules, and regulations regarding alcohol and/or drug testing. Employment is contingent upon a nationwide criminal background check and is conditional pending results. Licensure to practice as a Physical Therapist in New Mexico and successful completion of HIPAA training are required.
Working Conditions
* Work in office areas, therapy rooms, resident rooms, etc.
* Move intermittently during working hours.
* Subject to frequent interruptions.
* Involved with physicians, residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc.
* Subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
* Communicate with medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department directors.
* Work beyond normal hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
* Subject to call back during emergency conditions.
* Exercising and massaging residents.
* Constantly alert for resident safety.
* Attend and participate in continuing education as required.
* Exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc.
* Lifting, carrying, and supporting residents.
* Maintain liaison with residents, families, and other departments to plan for residents' physical therapy needs.
