Senior Software Engineer I, L3 Messaging Team (Remote)
We're recruiting a Senior Software Engineer I to own the technical direction of a mission-critical messaging platform serving hundreds of healthcare organizations across the United States.
THE ROLE
Our client is a fast-growing, mission-driven organization transforming patient engagement at scale. They've built the leading platform powering communications for underserved populations, with proven impact reaching millions. Now they're looking for a seasoned backend engineer to lead their Messaging Team technical direction and mentor the next generation of engineering talent.
You'll own complex features end-to-end, drive architectural decisions that shape how millions of patient communications are delivered, and share team lead responsibilities with your peers. This is a highly visible, technically autonomous role with direct impact on health equity outcomes.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

* Deep experience building, maintaining, and scaling APIs and distributed systems
* Advanced SQL skills and comfort working with large, complex datasets
* Proven ability to independently own complex projects end-to-end and mentor junior engineers
* Data-driven mindset you rely on evidence, not intuition
* Excellent communicator (especially in fully remote environments)
* Passionate about mission-driven work and advancing health equity
BONUS POINTS
* Experience with Twilio, RCS, or MMS messaging platforms
* Familiarity with healthcare compliance (TCPA, consent workflows, carrier regulations)
* Tech stack: React, PostgreSQL, Google Cloud, Sidekiq
* Event-driven architecture or high-throughput message delivery pipelines
WHAT YOU'LL DO
* Own and drive the technical direction of key messaging platform features
* Design and build backend messaging systems (delivery pipelines, consent management, scheduling orchestration, API integrations)
* Mentor L2 engineers, lead technical design discussions, and set engineering standards
* Contribute to architectural decisions that shape messaging infrastructure at scale
* Participate in on-call rotations (PagerDuty) and help improve team processes
* Work cross-functionally with Product, Customer Success, and Data teams
YOUR IMPACT
* Month 1: Master the platform architecture and contribute to technical design discussions
* Month 3: Independently deliver complex features with meaningful impact on patient outcomes
* Month 6: Be recognized as a technical leader driving strategic initiatives across the engineering department
