Scope of Job
We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s Occupational Therapy Doctorate ( OTD ) Program as a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor to serve as the Doctoral Capstone Coordinator. This faculty member will be appointed at the occupational therapy degree level and will provide leadership, coordination, and oversight of the doctoral capstone experience while contributing to teaching, service, and program development consistent with a clinical faculty role.
We will ensure that the selected faculty member is provided with appropriate release time and administrative support to effectively meet the needs of the doctoral capstone program, beginning 2026-2027 AY.

Department/College Background

The Department of Occupational Therapy supports the mission of UTRGV by preparing doctorate-level professionals capable of meeting the challenges of health care and community environments and the unique needs of a growing international and multicultural population of the South Texas region.
Minimum Qualifications

Earned doctoral degree (e.g., OTD, PhD, EdD, DHS, or related doctoral degree) from an institution accredited by a U.S. Department of Education ( USDE )–recognized accrediting agency
Minimum of three (3) years of documented professional experience in the field of occupational therapy, which must include:

Clinical practice experience as an occupational therapist
Teaching responsibilities at the postsecondary level
Evidence of scholarly or professional activity (e.g., scholarship of application, scholarship of teaching and learning, clinical scholarship, professional presentations, or publications)


Demonstrated ability to coordinate, mentor, and support doctoral-level students in applied or experiential learning activities
Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills necessary to coordinate a doctoral capstone program and work effectively with faculty, students, and community partners

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications
Licensed or otherwise regulated occupational therapist in accordance with the laws and regulations of the state(s) or jurisdiction(s) in which the program is located, or eligible for licensure at time of hire
Preferred Qualifications

Experience coordinating, supervising, or mentoring doctoral capstone projects or comparable culminating experiences (e.g., OTD capstone, dissertation, applied doctoral project)
PhD or equivalent in occupational therapy or a related discipline preferred
Demonstrated experience in research design, implementation, or evaluation, including applied, clinical, educational, or community-based research
Evidence of scholarly productivity, such as peer-reviewed publications, funded or submitted grants, conference presentations, or dissemination of applied scholarship

Additional Information
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program ( ORP ) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
