Job Description
Structural Engineer performs engineering design review, calculation, and advanced structural analysis assignments, usually involving a significant project or several smaller or less complex projects. These projects require the fully competent application of conventional knowledge in engineering or science. Through broader and more technically challenging work, the engineer will develop a thorough understanding of policies, methods, and procedures.
What You Will Do:
* Perform detailed engineering reviews of plans for compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and contracts, with minimal supervision.
* Provide technical advice to field operations and other technical teams.
* Address moderately complex problems, including conflicting design requirements and material standards.
* Conduct advanced structural analysis for offshore installations and marine vessels using finite element methods and hand calculations.
* Evaluate asset remaining life through structural assessments.
* Propose new approaches and recommend changes to methods, procedures, or designs.
* Draft technically accurate reports and respond to communications promptly.
* Collaborate with clients to resolve technical problems.
* Prepare weekly reports and billing documentation.
* Communicate workload status to team members to meet client needs.
* Work as part of a team but may operate autonomously.
* Maintain ABS Quality System requirements following training.
What You Will Need:
Education and Experience
* B.S. in Civil, Structural, Naval Architecture, Mechanical, Ocean Engineering, or related fields with 5 years of experience in O&G projects, shipyard, design/consulting, or classification society.
* Demonstrated computer literacy in engineering software.
* Experience with Finite Element Method (coursework or research).
Professional License
Professional or chartered engineering license preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Understanding of classification and quality concepts, practices, and procedures.
* Strong problem-solving skills.
* Excellent communication skills in English.
* Ability to work well with others.
* Willingness to learn ABS systems.
Additional Skills (Nice to Have):
* Knowledge of ABS software (EAGLE, OSAP).
* Experience with FEMAP/NX, NASTRAN, Ansys, ABAQUS, SACS, hydrodynamics software.
Reporting Relationships:
Reports to a senior engineer or technical manager. No direct reports.
