The Platform Engineering Manager leads the team responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the foundational systems, tooling, and automation that enable product and service teams to deliver software efficiently, securely, and reliably. This role blends strong technical leadership with people management, helping shape internal developer platforms (IDPs), paved paths, and infrastructure governance across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Drive the vision, strategy, and implementation of the company’s internal developer platform and related infrastructure services.
Define and enforce standards for CI/CD, observability, IaC, policy-as-code, and service lifecycle management.
Partner with product and security teams to ensure platform reliability, scalability, and compliance.
Lead architectural discussions on cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS, GCP) and on-premise integrations.
Oversee automation, container orchestration (Kubernetes), and developer productivity tooling.
Team Leadership & Culture
Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing team of platform and DevOps engineers.
Foster a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
Define career paths, conduct performance reviews, and support professional development.
Promote collaboration across engineering, SRE, and security teams to ensure consistent standards and shared goals.
Operational Excellence
Own SLAs, uptime, and cost efficiency for shared platform components.
Establish monitoring, alerting, and incident management processes.
Implement capacity planning, cost optimization, and proactive infrastructure management.
Define metrics and dashboards to measure developer experience and platform adoption.
Strategic Alignment
Translate business goals into platform initiatives that accelerate delivery and reduce risk.
Contribute to multi-year technology roadmaps and budgeting for platform operations.
Evaluate new technologies and vendors to enhance the internal ecosystem.
Collaborate with product leadership to balance speed, safety, and governance.
