They are modernizing their architecture from a monolithic system to distributed microservices, with a strong culture of collaboration, proactivity, and delivering high-impact features in fast sprint cycles.About the roleThis is a senior backend engineering role within the authorization platform team.You will contribute to a large-scale migration from a Ruby on Rails monolith to Go-based microservices. The role involves building new services, maintaining existing ones, and ensuring seamless and secure permission flows. The position requires strong technical ownership, proactive collaboration, and a focus on performance, scalability, and security.ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and deploy new features for the Go-based authorization microservice.Migrate authorization logic from the Ruby on Rails monolith into new, independent services.Collaborate with other engineering teams to ensure the authorization platform is easy to integrate and meets their needs.Contribute to the health and maintenance of backend infrastructure and custom libraries.Participate in daily standups, weekly sprint planning, and Friday demos.Proactively seek out and own tasks from a large backlog of work.Must have skillsMinimum 7+ years of professional backend software development experience.Significant hands-on experience with Go (Golang), including idioms and best practices (5+ years in production).Proficiency with Ruby on Rails for working with and migrating legacy logic.Experience with MySQL or other relational databases.Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work proactively.Ability to deploy a pull request to production within the first two weeks.Nice to have skillsKnowledge and passion for authorization logic (RBAC, ABAC).Familiarity with observability tools like Datadog.Experience with GitHub Actions.Conditions100% Remote role, with a 5-hour overlap required with UTC-4 (Central/Eastern Time).Contractor role – 12-month contract, renewable.Full-time dedication (40 hours/week).Device provided by the client (no BYOD requirement).At Andela, we know our strengths lie in our diverse community whose talents, perspectives, backgrounds and orientations we take pride in.
