Community Engagement Specialist
This role enables community leaders and participants to get things done, coordinating with teams and ensuring that community processes are efficient and well-run. The team facilitates the work of energetic and ambitious community members with their own vision of open source, allowing them to benefit from the company's work and bring their own flavor of Ubuntu into being.
The Community Engineer will play a key role in designing, executing, and scaling initiatives that foster a thriving community. This is an exciting opportunity for a technically proficient person who is passionate about open source software, Linux, and sustainable community building.
* Support community initiatives with technical skills and strong organizational skills.
* Work hand-in-hand with developers to smooth processes and integrate community plans with company plans for maximum impact.
* Encourage and facilitate the creation of new technical projects that enhance the community contribution experience.
* Represent community interests to teams.
* Lead complex, multi-disciplinary programs from conception through launch.
This includes regular blog and social media posts about community initiatives, events, accomplishments, and collaborative efforts between the company and the community. The Community Engineer will communicate effectively with developers and software engineers and represent not only the community but also the company as a contributor to the wider Linux ecosystem.
* Write high-quality content to promote and support community initiatives.
* Discuss ideas and collaborate on finding good solutions to community problems.
* Travel for internal and external events (2-4 weeks).
* Potential opportunity to travel more if desired.
* Nurture community contributions to Ubuntu.
* Engage with the Ubuntu community through various channels.
* Represent Ubuntu via speaking engagements at events and conferences.
We're looking for someone who loves technology and working with brilliant people. They should be curious, flexible, articulate, and accountable, with a clear public record of accomplishments. Experience with developer tools and open source projects is required, as well as interest and experience with some of the following: Ubuntu Linux, DevOps, software development, testing and QA, package management, container technology.
Additional desirable skills include experience with community management, Developer advocacy, software development, and contributing to open source projects.
