Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Solutions Architect – Data Services to lead the design and delivery of enterprise-scale data solutions for a global consulting environment. This role is responsible for defining end-to-end architectures across modern data platforms, ensuring alignment with business objectives, governance standards, and enterprise architecture principles.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in Azure Databricks, data engineering, and cloud-native architectures, along with hands-on experience in data mesh, data products, and Unity Catalog–based governance. This is a hands-on architect role, requiring both strategic thinking and practical execution through proof-of-concepts (POCs) and close collaboration with engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Solution & Data Architecture
* Define and own solution-level architectures across data platforms, with a focus on Azure Databricks (workspaces, compute, orchestration).
* Design and implement data mesh architectures and domain-oriented data products.
* Establish governance frameworks using Unity Catalog, including security, lineage, and multi-workspace strategies.
* Translate business requirements into scalable, secure, and production-ready data solutions.
* Identify cross-system dependencies, integration points, and architectural risks.
Data Platform Design & Governance
* Define best practices for data ingestion, transformation, and serving within Databricks.
* Establish standards for data product ownership, contracts, and lifecycle management.
* Implement enterprise-grade security and access control using Unity Catalog, Entra ID, and cloud-native tools.
* Ensure alignment with enterprise governance, compliance, and security policies.
* Contribute to reusable architecture patterns and platform standards.
Hands-on Execution & Proof-of-Concepts
* Design and execute POCs to validate architectural decisions and reduce delivery risk.
* Remain hands-on with:
* Python for data engineering, notebooks, and automation
* C# / Python for APIs, integrations, and platform services
* Support engineering teams by reviewing designs, resolving technical challenges, and ensuring architectural alignment.
Collaboration & Delivery Alignment
* Partner with Product Management and business stakeholders to shape features and solution direction.
* Collaborate with System Architects to align solution and system-level designs.
* Guide Agile teams through architecture decisions during planning and execution.
* Participate in architecture reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
Technical Leadership & Mentorship
* Provide guidance and mentorship to architects, tech leads, and senior engineers.
* Promote best practices in data architecture, engineering, and cloud platform design.
* Lead design reviews, technical discussions, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
Architecture Documentation
* Develop architecture artifacts including C4 models and design documentation.
* Create High-Level Designs (HLDs) and Low-Level Designs (LLDs), including sequence diagrams and data flows.
* Document functional and non-functional requirements aligned with architectural designs.
Required Qualifications
* 7+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or architecture roles.
* Proven experience designing and delivering data platforms on Azure Databricks.
* Strong understanding of data mesh concepts and domain-oriented data products.
* Hands-on experience with Unity Catalog (governance, security, lineage).
* Solid programming experience in Python and/or C#, including API and integration design.
* Experience designing end-to-end solutions across data platforms, APIs, and cloud infrastructure.
* Strong knowledge of cloud-native architectures, DevOps practices, and operational considerations.
* Experience creating architectural artifacts and design documentation.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Ability to operate in complex environments with ambiguity and evolving requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
* Prior experience as a Solutions Architect, System Architect, or Senior Technical Lead.
* Experience working in consulting or large enterprise environments.
* Familiarity with Agile frameworks (e.G., SAFe) and PI Planning.
* Experience with diagram-as-code tools such as Structurizr, PlantUML, or Mermaid.
Key Competencies
* Strategic thinking with a hands-on, delivery-focused mindset
* Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
* Ability to bridge business and technical stakeholders
* Leadership and mentorship capabilities
* Continuous learning and innovation mindset
