Who we are
Excent Capital is a global, regulated financial group founded in 2021 and built by professionals with over a decade of experience in financial markets. We operate across London, Seychelles, Limassol, Mexico City, and Sao Paulo with 100% in-house technology, international licensing, and a leadership team that is hands-on, present, and committed to results.
We believe in people who want more. If you bring discipline, ambition, and ownership, we give you the structure, the tools, and the credibility to grow with no limits.
The Role
We're hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to join our São Paulo team. You'll work on the platform that powers FX operations across multiple jurisdictions, serving real clients with real money. You'll report to the Backend Tech Lead and collaborate daily with backend, frontend, and QA teammates, including peers across our international offices.
This is a hands-on role. You own what you ship.
What You'll Do
* Design and build backend features with focus on performance, reliability, and long-term maintainability
* Own systems end-to-end, from data model to API contract to deployment behaviour under real traffic
* Write Python and Rust code that handles financial logic correctly, defensively, and at scale
* Partner with QA from the design phase, thinking through edge cases and failure modes before the first line of code is written
* Tune database queries, message queues, and async workflows for production-scale load
* Contribute to code reviews with substance: question architectural decisions, push back on shortcuts, raise the floor of the codebase
* Document decisions and trade-offs so the team doesn't relearn them six months later
How We Work
* We work alongside AI, not in spite of it: Tools like Claude Code, coding agents, and domain-specific agents (financial, legal, security) are part of the daily workflow. We expect you to use them well, which means knowing when to lean on them and when to override them. We don't want prompters. We want engineers who direct AI toward solutions they could have built themselves, and who recognize a bad answer when one comes back.
* We build systems, not patches: Every fix is also a design decision. We're allergic to "it works for now" because the cost of "for now" in a financial system is paid in client trust, regulatory exposure, and lost money. Think two releases ahead.
* We work with real money: That changes the math on shortcuts. A bug in a marketing site is an inconvenience. A bug in a margin calculation is a financial event. We expect that weight to inform how you write, review, and test.
* You'll grow fast, technically: You'll work on regulated systems, multi-jurisdiction architecture, and a stack that touches trading, KYC, financial operations, and real-time data. The bar is high. So is the trajectory.
What We're Looking For
* 5+ years of backend engineering experience, with a track record of shipping production systems under real user load
* Deep proficiency in Python; working experience with Rust or strong motivation to ramp up fast
* Solid command of PostgreSQL or similar relational databases, including indexing strategy and query optimisation under load
* Experience with distributed task processing and event streaming (Celery, RabbitMQ, Kafka, or similar)
* Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), Docker, and CI/CD pipelines
* Demonstrated and effective use of AI coding tools as part of your daily workflow, with the judgement to guide them — this will be assessed during the process
* Strong written and verbal English, enough to hold technical conversations with international teammates without friction
Nice to have:
* Experience with FX, brokerage, fintech, or other regulated financial systems
* Background in performance-sensitive systems: real-time data, high-throughput APIs, or low-latency operations
* History of working with QA teams on test design and coverage, not just acceptance
* Open-source contributions or technical writing
What We Offer
* Career growth: Clear career path and international business trips
* Competitive package: Net monthly salary plus performance-based quarterly bonus
* Health insurance: Full medical coverage with no co-pay
* Time off: 22 days of paid time off per year
* TotalPass: Full access to the TotalPass wellness platform
* Apple equipment: Work with the best tools, fully equipped with Apple devices
* Parking: Parking covered at the São Paulo office
* Working hours: Monday to Thursday 9:00 to 17:30; short Fridays 9:00 to 13:00
