JOB TITLE: OSS Pharmacist
JOB LOCATIONS: Ughelli, Warri, Delta
Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership and support related to clinical management of HIV/AIDS strategies and approaches in implementation of the programs.
Coordinate the design and implementation of facility-based programs in relation to clinical management of HIV/AIDS, including the use of Anti-retroviral treatment, PMTCT, care and support.
Coordinate the design and implementation of community-based programs in relation to community HTS and PMTCT, including optimizing HIV case finding and linkage to care at supported health facilities.
Liaise with partners implementing community programs to optimize community‑facility linkage of clients identified as HIV positive and retention to care and treatment; support PrEP and ART in line with national and global best practices and guidelines.
Provide technical assistance in non-ART clinical care including management of opportunistic infections (OI) and palliative care capacity for PLHIV; contribute to program strategies, subproject documents, work plans and budgets; represent ECEWS to donors and government officials on HIV/AIDS treatment, care and support at the state level.
Job Description
Dispense antiretroviral drugs (ARVs) and other medication in line with approved regimens and standards.
Dispense ARVs in appropriate packaging with clear instructions; provide medication-related counseling, reinforce adherence, and advise on side effects and drug interactions.
Provide drug information to health service providers and clients on request; identify and support follow-up of clients who do not return for refills.
Work with providers and clients to identify, manage, and report adverse drug reactions and drug interactions; contribute to decision making on treatment and care for individual clients.
Ensure Good Pharmaceutical Practice (GPP) and standards; calculate drug storage needs for ART start-up and expansion.
Monitor ARV and other drug stock levels at the OSS and communicate with the project team for re-stocking; contribute to forecasting/quantification of health commodities and monitoring of drug distributions.
Oversee drug logistics (stock-taking, proper storage, stock-outs) and monitor the effectiveness of the pull system.
Assess the functionality of pharmaceutical management systems and develop implementation plans to address gaps.
Oversee quality assurance systems at the OSS with monitoring of prescriptions, documentation, pharmacovigilance, and reduction of dispensing errors.
Identify information resource needs (e.g., ART guidelines) for medication counseling; implement monitoring and reporting of medication errors and adverse drug events.
Monitor ART prescriptions for appropriateness and discrepancies; support adherence to ARVs and address challenges as client numbers increase.
Contribute to data collection tools for key populations (HTS, ART and Prevention for Positives) and monitor weekly enrolment.
Provide support to the Strategic Information unit for research surveys on service delivery outcomes; ensure timely submission of quality reports to ECEWS on monthly/quarterly bases.
Support the development of budgets and work plans for clinical services in the OSS; identify opportunities and risks to promote clinical services.
Minimum Recruitment Standards
Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy or other relevant field with prior experience in supply chain management and HIV/AIDS monitoring and evaluation.
At least 2 years’ experience in related programming in developing countries.
Experience in Pharmacy Logistics and Supply Chain Management.
Experience in HIV/AIDS monitoring.
Proficiency in MS Access, SPSS, MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint and other Office packages; proficiency in email and internet.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
