Sylvamo's Data Management Practices organization provides an organized and methodical approach to data management governance, policies, methods and tools in order to assure data consistency, reliability and trustworthiness.
The Metadata Management Analyst will lead identification and capture of knowledge about data that drives up literacy, quality, productivity and most importantly, value for Sylvamo.
Metadata management is the administration of data that describes other data.
This role involves establishing policies and processes that ensure information can be integrated, accessed, shared, linked, analyzed and maintained to best effect across the Sylvamo.
The Metadata Management Analyst works to enable business users to find the data they need and understand its use and meaning.
At Sylvamo it is important for the Data Management Practices team to be multi-disciplinary.
This requires that you demonstrate your ability to expand your area of influence beyond "traditional metadata management" and contribute towards making Sylvamo data-driven by enabling assertive, timely and informed decision making.
**Key Accountabilities**:
- Drive a collaborative approach to capture and enable understanding of and access to data and analytical assets with an objective to drive transparency, literacy, and common language around data and analytics.
Example assets include a data catalog, data dictionary, business glossary, report inventory, data lineage, and master data management metadata.

Deliver on a roadmap that builds out features and functions that continue to support the enterprise's needs for metadata management.
- Lead development of standards around how key high-value data elements are named, categorized, tracked, and managed to serve as single source of 'truth'.
- Collaborate with other teams to capture technical metadata.
- Provide organization understanding of terms and usage of data.
- Ensure creation and maintenance of metadata meets quality and security requirements.
- Support the implementation of an ongoing communication plan to educate stakeholders on metadata management.
- Partner with other members of the Data Management Practices team to understand metadata requirements and implement a managed, accessible metadata environment.
- Query, report and analyze metadata as needed.
- Deliver on a roadmap that builds out features and functions that continue to support the enterprise's needs for metadata management.
**Key Challenges**:
- The Transition Services Agreement (TSA) exit strategy: Rapid knowledge transfer from International Paper resources, required for TSA exit.
- Evolving trends in metadata management technology need to be monitored and evaluated for potential value at Sylvamo.
- Existing data structures in regional silos present challenges in understanding data use and definition.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams for successful outcomes.
- Driving consensus, where needed, on how different users define and use data objects.
- Understanding current regional data usage, policies and definitions
- Enable business users to find the data they need and understand its use and meaning
- Defining appropriate activities and partnerships for this role.
- Establishing and communicating best practices for metadata management across formerly separate business units.
- Understanding business requirements and translating to technical solutions.
Developing relationships with partners across the globe.
**Knowledge and experience**:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical/analytical field
- Understanding of data governance and metadata management principles such as Lineage, Profiling, Business Glossary, Data Dictionary, etc.
- Working knowledge of industry standard data cataloguing tools preferred
- Any Data Governance, Analytics, or Quality processes experience is preferred.
Knowledge of BI Tools (e.g.
Tableau, Power BI) a plus
- Ability to convey complex Data Management concepts in business-friendly terms to non-technical stakeholders
- Collaboration skills to pursue and build relationships across business and technology teams to gather requirements, insight and understand priorities
- Ability to effectively project manage and coordinate with internal stakeholders
- Strong analytical skills, good knowledge of data management processes
- Flexibility to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity and rapid change
