School of Art & Design – Lecturer I in Art History
The School of Art and Design at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) is seeking a non‑tenure track Lecturer I in Art History for a three‑year appointment beginning September 1, 2026. Candidates will teach four courses each semester, including introductory and advanced undergraduate classes in Ancient American, Early Modern/Modern, and Contemporary Latin American Art History. They will also maintain an active scholarly research program, support student mentorship and professional development, and participate in department, college, and university service and leadership, including committee work and academic advising.
Responsibilities
• Teach four undergraduate courses each semester, covering a range of art historical periods and cultures.
• Develop and implement engaging curricula and assessments.
• Maintain an active scholarly research program in one or more art‑history fields.
• Mentor students in research projects, portfolio development, and professional preparation.
• Serve on departmental and university committees contributing to the mission of UTRGV.
• Engage in outreach and outreach activities related to the university art gallery and community partners.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Art History or a closely related field from an accredited institution, with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in art history.
Demonstrated commitment to serving and mentoring diverse student populations.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in art history and studio art discussions.
Strong student‑centered teaching philosophy and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Active participation in departmental, college, and university service and leadership, including committee work and academic mentoring activities.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. in Art History or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
One or more years of successful university teaching experience in art history.
