This role supports all Manufacturing Operations sites for Barry Callebaut\'s Cocoa Business sites in Brazil, from initial concept and feasibility studies through engineering design, procurement, and project implementation. The individual will translate business needs into actionable project plans and ensure successful delivery while adhering to industry standards and company policies. The Senior Project Engineer is expected to foster a culture of excellence and innovation, driving teams toward strategic objectives.This position will be based in Itabuna, Bahia, Brazil, with eventual support for a second factory in Ilhéus, Bahia, requiring travel between plants as needed. It reports to the Engineering organization, with information and data exchange with Corporate teams as a core responsibility. Stakeholders include Plant Managers and departments such as Quality Assurance, HSE, HR, Maintenance, R&D, Supply Chain and Production.The core mission combines deep technical and managerial skills to ensure high engineering standards across capital projects for the food industry, with strong focus on timing and cost management, a clear communication plan, and cross-departmental buy-in. The role leads internal and outsourced teams on a range of projects from small layout improvements to complex brownfield or greenfield lines. The position offers visibility within the company and can be a strong step in a Barry Callebaut career.Key responsibilitiesLead and oversee outsourced engineers/engineering companies and staff; perform the full range of professional engineering work assignments.Improve existing frameworks, standards and internal work instructions for the department and obtain validation.Serve as project manager on construction projects; establish priorities, track budgets and schedules, direct work of staff, consultants, and contractors; administer contracts and approve payments.Create and promote an equitable workplace respectful of a multicultural environment.Prepare and process required project documentation; maintain records of activities, progress and results; prepare design drawings, specifications, studies, reports, memoranda, documentation, and correspondence.Establish and revise technical, quality assurance, and quality control standards for areas of specialization; perform design reviews for conformance with standards and obtain formal approvals from stakeholders.Obtain and integrate stakeholder input in planning, design, and construction; participate in steering groups and committees; represent Project Engineering in operational decisions.Collaborate with management to plan, organize, and direct resources to complete projects within budget and schedule; support development of bidding documents and contracting processes.Ensure project completion in accordance with work plans and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.With Procurement, manage procurement strategies including selecting and managing contractors, vendors and suppliers; negotiate contracts to ensure timely, cost-effective procurement of services and materials.Manage risk by identifying potential risks, developing mitigation strategies, and creating contingency plans to address uncertainties.Lead budget estimation for the CapEx 2-year Mid Term Plan; obtain validation from the Engineering Manager.Perform other related work as required.About youA bachelor\'s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is required. A master\'s degree (MS or MBA) is an asset.Master\'s Degree and/or Management Professional (PMP®) certification is a plus.Progressive engineering experience within manufacturing or corporate environments with proven experience leading teams and projects of significant impact.Full proficiency in business and technical English.High-level knowledge of Microsoft Project is required.Proficient in project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) and engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks). Familiarity with ERP systems is an advantage.Proven technical experience in multifunctional projects and ability to lead teams with references available.Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.Exposure to international manufacturing environments and projects is a plus.At Barry Callebaut, we are committed to Diversity & Inclusion.
