AREENA is the all-in-one operating system for sports leagues. From scheduling and payments to real-time AI-generated highlights, we help organizers run smoother seasons while delighting players with pro-level digital experiences.
Our platform spans league operations, mobile apps, payments, streaming, AI-generated content, internal operational tooling, and emerging AI automation systems.
Our stack is primarily Python, Flutter, MongoDB, GraphQL, and AWS. We are a fast-moving startup with a flat structure, rapid iteration cycles, and a strong product/engineering culture focused on shipping.
Why This Role Matters
This is not a narrow feature-development role.
You will become one of the primary engineers responsible for understanding and evolving a large, interconnected production platform used by real sports organizations and thousands of players.
You’ll work across:
* backend systems,
* frontend/mobile applications,
* infrastructure,
* AI-assisted development workflows,
* internal operational tooling,
* streaming/video systems,
* and emerging AI agent frameworks.
You’ll work closely with AREENA leadership and our fractional CTO to take ownership of major parts of the platform while helping shape the future technical direction of the company.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex product and systems problems, learning quickly, and operating with a very high degree of autonomy.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
* Build and maintain production features across backend, frontend, and mobile systems
* Work heavily with AI coding agents and internal AI development workflows to accelerate engineering output
* Quickly learn and navigate a large existing codebase spanning multiple domains
* Contribute to architecture discussions and long-term technical direction
* Improve platform reliability, scalability, developer tooling, and operational efficiency
* Collaborate directly with product leadership to rapidly prototype and ship new ideas
* Help build next-generation sports technology experiences including:
* streaming workflows,
* AI stat tracking,
* automated highlights/content generation,
* and internal AI operational agents
Must-Have Qualifications
* 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
* Strong full stack capabilities across modern frontend and backend systems
* Strong Python experience
* Experience working with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred)
* Experience working with APIs, databases, and production-scale applications
* Excellent written and spoken English
* Comfortable owning large areas of a codebase independently
* Strong debugging and systems-thinking skills
* Able to move quickly while maintaining good engineering judgment
* Highly proficient using AI coding tools/agents as part of daily development workflows
* Startup mindset: proactive, resourceful, adaptable, and product-oriented
Nice to Have
* Flutter or mobile app experience
* GraphQL experience
* MongoDB experience
* Experience with AI/LLM tooling
