One of the fastest-growing time-critical logistics providers in North America, specializing in expedited air freight, charter operations, and complex transportation for medical, aerospace, automotive, and life-science clients worldwide.
Position Summary
The Accounting & Finance Leader will oversee all financial operations of our client including accounting, financial planning & analysis, budgeting, forecasting, compliance, and systems optimization. This role is ideal for a highly analytical, detail-oriented leader who thrives in fast-paced, scaling environments and can build structure, clarity, and accountability across the organization.
You will partner closely with the CEO, President, General Manager, Quality & Compliance, and Operations teams to ensure that the client maintains world-class financial health, clean books, accurate reporting, and forward-looking insights. This role is equal parts strategic finance, hands-on accounting, and
systems/process architecture.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Leadership & Oversight
• Serve as the senior leader over all accounting and finance functions.
• Ensure timely, accurate, GAAP-compliant financial statements each month.
• Own the full close process, including accruals, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
• Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, and scenario-based financial models.
• Provide monthly reporting packages to leadership with meaningful insights—not just
data.
• Oversee cash flow forecasting, treasury management, and working capital
optimization.
2. Accounting Operations
• Supervise the accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and collections
processes.
• Ensure invoices are accurate, timely, and tied to clean operational data.
• Implement strong internal controls around posting, reconciliations, approvals, and
document retention.
• Maintain a clean chart of accounts aligned to COGS vs. general expense categories.
• Support preparation for tax filings, audits, and compliance reviews.
3. Systems Ownership &Data Integrity
This role will serve as the internal "systems architect" across our finance-related
platforms, including:
• QuickBooks Online – primary accounting system
• Supply Vision – operational and billing system
• Front – shared inbox and customer communication
Responsibilities include:
• Ensuring data integrity and seamless synchronization across platforms.
• Designing workflows that reduce manual touchpoints and errors.
• Increasing automation and building dashboards/reporting tools.
• Partnering with IT and software vendors as needed.
4. Strategic Finance, Analysis & Planning
• Assist in building forward-looking growth tools to support the 30×30 initiative.
• Evaluate profitability by product line (air freight, charters, truckload, Mexico, etc.).
• Analyze margin performance, pricing trends, vendor costs, and customer behaviors.
• Build models for major initiatives (UK expansion, parametric insurance, new accounts,
etc.).
• Provide recommendations that improve operating ratios, scale efficiency, and margin
consistency.
5. Compliance, Risk & Quality
• Work closely with our Quality & Compliance function (TSA, IAC, ISO, GDP, SOC-2
initiatives).
• Support audits, government reviews, insurance claims, and internal controls testing.
• Ensure vendor compliance, W-9/1099 management, and documentation accuracy.
• Drive accountability around SOP compliance, approvals, and segregation of duties.
6. Leadership & Team Development
• Lead and mentor accounting staff (Accounting/HR Manager, AR/AP clerks, billing
team, etc.).
• Establish high-performance expectations, KPIs, and continuous improvement
initiatives.
• Create scalable documentation, SOPs, and training modules.
• Foster a culture of accuracy, discipline, and proactive communication.
Qualifications
Required:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (MBA or CPA preferred).
• 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, ideally in logistics,
transportation, or a related operational industry.
• Strong understanding of GAAP, financial controls, and scalable accounting practices.
• Hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online.
• Experience working with operational systems such as Supply Vision, TMS/WMS
platforms, or integrated finance tools.
• Proven success building financial processes in a high-growth environment.
• Strong analytical ability with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and modeling.
• High attention to detail, accuracy, and data quality.
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams and influence cross-functional partners.
Preferred:
• Experience with multi-entity, multi-currency, or multinational operations (Mexico, UK,
etc.).
• Familiarity with expedited freight, air charter, or time-critical logistics.
• Experience implementing or optimizing accounting systems and workflow automation
tools.
• Knowledge of compliance frameworks relevant to logistics: TSA, IAC, ISO 9001, C-
TPAT, etc.
Traits That Make You Successful in this Role:
• You are a builder, not a maintainer—comfortable creating structure in fast-growth
environments.
• You are a craftsman-minded leader: precise, reliable, detail-oriented, and consistent.
• You thrive in a meritocracy—performance and impact matter more than tenure.
• You naturally anticipate issues before they become problems.
• You communicate clearly, confidently, and proactively.
• You care deeply about accuracy, accountability, and financial discipline.
• You take ownership and deliver results independently.
