Job Purpose
Responsible for operation, maintenance support (tier 2 and 3), satellite system link analysis, and integration of satellite communications systems.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Perform tier 2 and 3 support to existing satellite communications links, including analyzing link data to identify performance issues.
2. Assist operational personnel with antenna or satellite system support needs.
3. Identify, develop, or modify satellite system maintenance or performance issues, including antenna operations or link performance, to ensure optimal operation.
4. Provide engineering services for satellite system designs, including link budgets, system upgrades, and integration for new services and projects supporting voice, data, video, and emergency communications.
5. Support satellite monitoring and control systems integral to satellite communication.
6. Offer engineering and subject matter expertise to other departments and clients, including NSF and USAP management.
7. Review satellite systems for spares and lifecycle maintenance, establishing tactical and strategic budgets.
8. Ensure uninterrupted satellite communication capabilities at stations and field camps by reviewing maintenance schedules.
9. Develop and review satellite system designs and project documentation.
10. Support project managers, technical writers, and project teams with engineering expertise.
11. Act as camp manager during overland traverse to Black Island during winter.
12. Assist the RF communications team as needed.
13. Provide weekly reports on satellite system status.
14. Serve as "smart hands" for satellite infrastructure support around the station.
15. Collaborate with IT management and project teams using project management methodologies.
16. Deploy to Antarctica or other locations for upgrades, installations, or information gathering.
17. Design, assemble, test, deploy, and support mobile Satcom terminals.
18. Provide analysis and recommendations regarding satellite communications to ASC management and NSF.
19. Maintain a safe workplace, prioritizing safety at all times.
20. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
1. U.S. citizenship or permanent residence required.
2. BS in Engineering, Communications, or Satellite Systems preferred; equivalent experience accepted, with at least three years in satellite engineering design, support, and review.
3. At least four years supporting and maintaining technical communication equipment, including RF fields such as HF, UHF/VHF, microwave; Monitoring and Control software is a plus.

Physical Requirements
1. Deployment required; must pass physical, dental, and examinations as per NSF requirements for Antarctica.

Position Expectations
1. Full-time, seasonal position in Antarctica.
2. Expenses paid including meals, lodging, medical, gear, and travel.

4. Performance period: October 2025 - February 2026.
