Job Summary
Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) is seeking enthusiastic and detail-oriented individuals for Peer Leaders in the Career and Education Planning (Advisement, Welcome Center, and Career and Transfer) department. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting student retention and success through peer-to-peer mentoring. This includes, but is not limited to, helping students navigate class registration, making appropriate referrals to other services on campus, and supporting student success workshops and large-scale programming. Peer Leaders meet individually with students (in person, virtually and over the phone), offering guidance to help students thrive academically and personally. This position provides administrative support for efforts identified to promote and build student retention, completion, and success. This position is based on a relational customer service mindset and treating each individual with respect and kindness to make their experience with EMCC a positive one.

Essential Functions
50% - Provides students with information about available resources and support services to enhance their academic success. Assists in facilitating student learning through workshops and one-on-one sessions on topics such as time management, study skills, academic planning, and college engagement. Supports campus-wide programming efforts led by the Career and Transfer Center, including retention-focused events and peer-led initiatives.
40% - Guides students through filling out admissions applications and understanding placement testing procedures and scores. Assists students in understanding, selecting, and registering for courses based on suggestions from assigned academic advisors. Responds promptly to inbound emails and phone calls from prospective students, addressing inquiries and concerns about the college or the enrollment process. Maintains detailed records and track student progress to ensure a seamless enrollment experience and support continuous improvement efforts. Provides proactive outreach to identified students to offer guidance, encouragement, and referrals to academic and support resources.
10% - Provide administration support to the Career and Education Planning department including but not limited to responding to email inquiries, managing outreach lists, preparing workshop materials, and maintaining copies. Performs other duties as assigned commensurate to the level of the position. Participates in regular training and team meetings to stay updated on campus procedures and best practices in student support. Performs other duties as assigned in alignment with program goals.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Completed 12+ credit hours at EMCC
Desired Qualifications
* Associate’s degree
* One (1) or more years of customer service experience
* Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA
* Federal Work Study Eligibility (please review section 'Additional Requirements' for Federal Work Study applicants)
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Excellent organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
* Experience providing direct front-line customer service.
* Experience communicating effectively in person and in writing
* Experience working with a diverse population of students or customers.
* Familiarity with educational institutions and enrollment processes.
* Experience working with Microsoft Office or Google products to perform assignments
* Experience working with PeopleSoft, electronic forms, reporting systems or similar applications
* Experience with public speaking
* Applicants who are bilingual in Spanish and able to demonstrate fluency (written and spoken) are highly encouraged to apply

FWS is a need-based, federally funded program.
FWS does not directly pay for tuition, and funds are only available to eligible students attending a minimum of six (6) degree applicable hours in a federal student aid eligible program.
