Basic Function
Office of the Bursar seeks experienced Assistant Bursar to lead cross‑functional business process improvement, systems optimization, and strategic student financial initiatives. This senior leadership position serves as key advisor to AVP Finance/University Bursar, ensuring student financial operations and initiatives are optimal, efficient, student‑centered and aligned with University goals for sustainability, compliance, and student success.
Nature and Scope
Assist Bursar will evaluate and optimize student financial business processes and systems, partner with Director of Student Account Operations to stabilize and enhance Workday Student Financials, build partnerships with Enrollment Management, Registrar, Financial Aid, IT, Student Affairs for coordinated delivery of financial services, and represent Office in high‑level cross‑functional initiatives.
Principal Accountabilities
Leadership & Representation
Support & represent AVP Finance in committees, working groups, university forums.
Provide strategic leadership in student financial services, focusing on analysis, process improvement, service excellence.
Manage & mentor staff for analysis, process mapping, system optimization.
Business Process Analysis & Strategy
Lead evaluation and improvement of student financial processes to enhance efficiency, compliance, student experience.
Align processes & initiatives with institutional goals for enrollment, retention, financial performance.
Translate strategic objectives into actionable requirements and improvements.
Systems & Data Optimization
Partner with Director to optimize Workday Student modules, ensuring functionality enhances student experience and strong receivables management.
Collaborate with IT and campus partners to address system gaps, refine workflows, enhance usability.
Leverage data analytics and reporting to inform decisions and track progress toward goals.
Strengthen Receivables Outcomes and Performance
Partner with AVP to design and implement strategies that strengthen receivables, reduce bad debt, improve cash flow.
Lead cross‑unit initiatives focused on student financial access, affordability, success, outreach.
Stay up to date with external agencies, e.g., NACUBO, for benchmarking, performance management, compliance.
Stakeholder Engagement & Change Management
Build strong partnerships with Enrollment Management, Registrar, Financial Aid, IT, Student Affairs for coordinated delivery.
Lead change management and training to help staff adopt improved processes and new system functionality.
Communicate progress, challenges, and solutions to leadership and stakeholders.

Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or related field.
Minimum 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in student financial services, bursar operations, higher education finance, or related field.
Demonstrated leadership in functional/business analysis, process improvement, or systems optimization.
Experience with ERP/SIS platforms; Workday Student strongly preferred.
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with proven ability to influence cross‑functional teams.
Expected Salary Range
$105,000–$115,000
