Senior OutSystems EngineerAbout the RoleWe are seeking a Senior OutSystems Engineer to lead platform stabilization and migration readiness efforts for a large-scale clinical application supporting 130+ locations nationwide. This is a highly hands-on, high-impact role focused on improving system performance, reducing risk, and preparing the platform for an eventual transition to a custom-built solution.This engagement is expected to begin late April or early May and run approximately 6 weeks, with strong potential for extension based on performance.What You’ll DoStabilize and Modernize ArchitectureAssess tightly coupled module architecture and reduce dependenciesIdentify and execute module extraction strategies to improve scalabilityMinimize risk and blast radius of ongoing changes without disrupting workflowsOptimize Database and System PerformanceImprove database performance by optimizing queries and implementing indexing strategiesDesign and execute migration of binary large objects out of the databaseReplace inefficient polling with event-driven or conditional patternsImplement backpressure controls for integrations impacting system performanceReduce Error Noise and Improve ObservabilityIdentify and remediate recurring error patterns masking real issuesRefactor exception handling and client-side lifecycle violationsEstablish a clean, monitorable baseline for system healthBuild a Real Release PipelineEstablish a true multi-environment deployment pipelineConfigure deployment automation using OutSystems APIsImplement gated release processes with approvals and controlsEnsure non-production environments support meaningful regression testingManage Platform Capacity and LicensingAudit platform usage and identify optimization opportunitiesRemove unused or redundant componentsDefine governance for capacity-impacting changesExtend platform headroom without impacting functionalityPrepare for Migration to Custom PlatformDocument all integrations including triggers, data contracts, and failure modesMap data entities into portable schemasCapture business logic embedded within the platformIdentify core business logic vs platform-generated componentsAdvise on migration sequencing and risk across workflowsWhat You BringRequired Experience5+ years building and maintaining enterprise-scale OutSystems applicationsDeep experience with OutSystems 11, Service Studio, and Lifetime APIProven success optimizing performance including query tuning and data model improvementsExperience refactoring complex, tightly coupled systems into modular architecturesStrong SQL Server performance tuning experience including execution plans and indexingHands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation within OutSystemsStrong problem-solving skills in live production environmentsPreferred ExperienceExperience supporting or leading OutSystems to custom platform migrationsBackground in healthcare or clinical systems with understanding of critical workflowsFamiliarity with HIPAA considerations and secure data handlingExperience with license optimization and application object managementKnowledge of integration patterns across scheduling, e-signature, or CRM systemsWorking EnvironmentCollaborate closely with internal engineering and PM leadershipOperate with high autonomy and ownership of technical decisionsWork within a live production environment supporting critical clinical operationsBalance speed and precision while minimizing risk to end usersThis is a unique opportunity to step into a complex, high-visibility system, make immediate impact, and shape the foundation for a next-generation platform.
