About the Role
Canonical is seeking enthusiastic engineers to work as Ubuntu distribution engineers, focusing on optimizing Ubuntu for public cloud environments. This involves collaborating with cloud providers like Amazon, Microsoft, Google, IBM, and Oracle to tailor Ubuntu for their infrastructure, ensuring a seamless experience for users worldwide.
Responsibilities
Collaborate proactively within a distributed team.
Foster a seamless software ecosystem for all Ubuntu users.
Evaluate contributions to maintain high-quality software standards.
Collaborate with the Ubuntu and Debian communities, upstream projects, and customers.
Debug issues in open source and team-maintained code.
Maintain and package software such as cloud agents, web servers, databases, and network services.
Travel 2 to 4 weeks annually for internal and external events.
Qualifications
Passion for technology and working with talented teams.
Curious, flexible, articulate, and accountable.
Strong soft skills; passionate, enterprising, thoughtful, self-motivated.
Interest or experience in public cloud operations/architecture.
Interest or experience in open source contributions.
Basic understanding of reproducibility and testing; comfortable with containers or VMs.
Strong Python fundamentals.
Interest in Linux distribution packaging.
Understanding of package management and dependencies.
Interest in containerization (Docker, OCI, LXD) and virtualization (VirtualBox, QEMU) or public clouds.
