Our client is expanding its R&D team in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and is seeking highly motivated engineers to contribute to the development of cutting-edge drilling technologies for offshore deepwater applications. This opportunity centers on innovation, new product development, and testing—not operations or maintenance.
We are hiring across multiple disciplines to support core technology areas including downhole power generation, coiled tubing/drillstring development, subsea and high-voltage electronics, and advanced testing/integration systems. Ideal candidates will have a solid background in research and development (R&D), system design, and engineering analysis, with hands-on experience in product development for high-reliability environments.
Areas of Expertise We’re Looking For:
* Mechanical Engineering: Experience in drilling motors, downhole turbines, or subsea pumps for power generation; coiled tubing/drillstring development; familiarity with manufacturing, machining, and supplier coordination.
* Mechanical Design/Drafting: Proficiency in generating manufacturing drawings for complex drilling or subsea components and coordinating with manufacturers/suppliers.
* Integration/Test Engineering: Engineers with a mechanical or electrical/electronics focus, experienced in downhole or subsea systems, sensor integration, test equipment design, and data acquisition.
Electrical Engineering:
* Plasma/High-Voltage Electronics: High-voltage systems for plasma-based drilling. Relevant experience in military, defense, pulsed power, lasers, or nuclear sectors is a plus.
* Subsea/Downhole Electronics: Development of high-power electronics and embedded systems for subsea applications.
Software/Firmware/Controls Engineering:
* Firmware Development: Development and validation of high-reliability firmware for oil & gas environments.
* Controls Engineering: Experience with PLC programming, real-time control systems, test equipment design, and HIL testing. Familiarity with MATLAB, dSPACE, or SPEEDGOAT is advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
* Execute R&D projects in alignment with technical specifications, timelines, and budget
* Design, test, and commercialize innovative drilling tools and systems for offshore use
* Implement processes and tools that drive excellence and innovation in product development
* Collaborate with global engineering teams, leadership, and suppliers to ensure successful integration and delivery
* Manage technical risks and ensure compliance with HSEQ and regulatory standards
* Produce detailed engineering documentation including drawings, calculations, and technical reports
* Foster a culture of collaboration and innovation within the R&D team
* Represent the company’s technical work at conferences to reinforce its position as a technology leader
Our client is growing its footprint in Brazil to address the region’s unique energy challenges. With a focus on offshore and deepwater solutions, the local team is instrumental in developing next-generation drilling systems tailored to this critical market. They work in close partnership with global collaborators and local operators to bring advanced solutions to life.
In this role, you’ll engage in transformative R&D efforts alongside teams in Brazil, Europe, and the USA—contributing to innovations across both conventional and renewable energy domains.
