- As a member of learning assistant_
Provide a safe, stimulating and supportive learning environment for all students to thrive and feel known and cared for;
Drive student success across all grades, by helping to develop individualized learning plans for students who need them, to support each student to learn through meaningful, engaging work and to contribute to creating strategies for supporting specific needs that are identified as being common to a larger group of students;
Write and maintain official records that yield useful data for teachers, SST team, parents and outside resources to support students;
Care for pupils’ social, emotional and physical well-being, by creating a safe and positive culture within the classroom in order to make children secure to learn, take risks and make mistakes;
Typical duties:
helping pupils with their learning, often with a particular focus on maths, reading and writing
supervising group activities
setting up equipment for lessons and keeping classrooms safe and tidy
helping develop programmes of learning activities and adapting appropriate materials
motivating and encouraging pupils
monitoring and recording children’s behaviour and progress
helping with school events, trips and activities.
Key skills for classroom assistants
Excellent communication skills and the ability to relate to people of all ages and backgrounds.
Good literacy and numeracy.
IT skills.
Organisational skills.
Patience and the ability to manage challenging behaviour.
Be an effective communicator using data and objective measures when talking to faculty and parents;
Be an exemplary learner, always reflecting, growing and seeking to improve.
Be a supportive and collaborative team member
