We need the engineer who will watch over that build, keep it safe, and take full technical ownership the moment we launch.Requirements:Why this role mattersYou will be Engineer #1.During the MVP (Months 0-4) – act as technical governor: review designs and code, block shortcuts, keep security tight, and ensure milestones hit on time.After launch (Month 4 +) – own the codebase, build new features, raise performance, and hire the in-house team that follows you.What You'll DoFocus Your missionProject management: Run weekly sprint reviews with Toptal, clear blockers fast, and keep everyone on schedule.Hands-on coding: Ship clean features in TypeScript/Node, Next.js, and/or Python; refactor for speed and reliability.AI engineering: Plug in and fine-tune GPT-4o (and future models).
Build retrieval pipelines so every answer cites real data.Security champion: Enforce least-privilege IAM, encryption everywhere, and robust audit logging—no shortcuts.Troubleshooting & reliability: Monitor logs, debug incidents, run blameless post-mortems, and keep uptime high.Team building: Write job specs, hire within our time-zone band, mentor engineers, and create healthy remote habits.Must-have Skills & Experience7+ years building web software including 2+ years leading or mentoring engineers—ideally in fast-moving startups.Strong in TypeScript/JavaScript (Node.js, Next.js) or Python—comfortable in the other stack.Familiar with ML/AI libraries (LangChain, Hugging Face Transformers, etc.)
