Mainframe System Engineer
Location – Brazil Remote
Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Mainframe System Engineer to join our team and provide operational, consultancy, and migration support in a complex IBM Z environment. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in mainframe operations, storage administration, and migration projects involving IBM and CA products. This role requires strong technical proficiency, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams to ensure seamless system operations and migrations.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage and support mainframe operations, ensuring high availability and performance.
* Provide consultancy and technical assistance for migration projects
* Implement and configure IBM storage solutions such as DFSMSrmm, DFSMShsm, and related advanced audit and reporting tools.
* Assist with installation and configuration of IBM OMEGAMON for Storage and other monitoring tools.
* Develop and maintain JCL scripts, REXX, and Assembler programs for automation and operational efficiency.
* Utilize TSO and ISPF for system management and troubleshooting.
* Collaborate with storage administrators to assess migration impacts and provide training/documentation.
* Ensure compliance with system standards and best practices for SMP/E and z/OS environments.
Mandatory Skills and Proficiencies:
* Mainframe Operations Expertise: Minimum 5+ years in mainframe operations, service, or support roles.
* Technical Skills:
* Proficiency in TSO, ISPF, and JCL.
* Ability to write REXX and Assembler programs.
* Experience with DFSMSrmm and/or CA-1 Tape Management System.
* Hands-on experience with IBM tools such as:
* IBM OMEGAMON for Storage
* IBM Advanced Audit and Reporting for DFSMShsm
* IBM Advanced Catalog Management (ACM)
* IBM Advanced Allocation Management (AAM)
* Ability to migrate tools, including the following, within mainframe systems
* CA-1 to DFSMSrmm migration (configuration, installation, JCL code, runtime parameters).
* CA FAVER to IBM Advanced Catalog Management migration (customized JCL creation).
* IBM Global Resource Serialization (GRS) migration (training, PARMLIB member creation, operational considerations).
* CA Allocate to IBM Advanced Allocation Management migration (installation, configuration, training).
* Strong written and verbal communication skills for documentation and stakeholder interaction.
Preferred Skills and Proficiencies:
* Knowledge of IBM Z system operation and configuration, including SMP/E.
* Familiarity with competing products and migration strategies.
* Experience with Storage Administration on IBM Z.
* Migration experience across IBM and CA products with ability to create customized JCL and runtime parameters.
