About the DepartmentThe DNDi discovery team, located at the DNDi offices in Geneva and Rio de Janeiro, focuses on discovering novel treatments for neglected tropical diseases such as Chagas disease, leishmaniasis, and dengue fever. These efforts are conducted in close collaboration with partners worldwide.About the OfficeEstablished in Rio de Janeiro in 2004, DNDi's Latin America branch includes Brazil’s Fiocruz as a founding member and collaborates with regional science and access leaders. It nurtures R&D and access partnerships across the region, addressing diseases like Chagas, leishmaniasis, hepatitis C, and dengue, while contributing to DNDi's global strategy. The office also advocates for neglected patients and leads capacity-building projects through multi-country clinical research and drug discovery platforms, including the Chagas Clinical Research Platform, RedeLEISH, and the Lead Optimization Latin America (LOLA).OverviewThe Discovery Data Scientist will support the discovery team in achieving its objectives and plays a crucial role in the progression of DNDi's hit generation and lead optimization projects up to preclinical candidate delivery.Key Focus of the RoleEnsure that the DNDi discovery compound and data management system is adequate and meets organizational needs.Integrate novel R&D tools into current workflows to enhance efficiency and incorporate emerging technologies like AI and machine learning. Support disease teams as needed.Assist the team in analyzing, modeling, interpreting, and presenting drug discovery data.The Discovery Data Scientist collaborates closely with the global discovery team and external partners such as academic institutions and industry to ensure data is managed according to best practices.ResponsibilitiesEnsure timely data integrity checks and uploads into DNDi databases (currently ScienceCloud), reviewing data quality.Manage database structures, propose upgrades, and oversee access and data sharing with partners and CROs.Manage licenses for scientific software, ensure compliance with IT policies, and support software issues.Work with IT to resolve infrastructure issues and evaluate new software solutions.Support data analysis, interpretation, and integration of AI/ML approaches into projects.Reporting Line & InteractionsReports to the Head of Discovery and R&D Partnership - LatAm.Collaborates with Discovery Project Managers, Leaders, and other departments.Engages with external partners and maintains productive relationships, representing DNDi's data management needs.Experience and EducationMinimum 6 years of relevant experience, including at least 3 at Officer level or equivalent.Proven ability to work effectively in team and matrix environments.Experience in public and private sectors is desirable.Graduate or postgraduate degree required.Technical SkillsStrong knowledge in R&D data management and software integration.Understanding of drug discovery/development, including basic organic and medicinal chemistry and biology.Basic scripting skills in SQL, HTML preferred.Skills and CompetenciesInitiative, prioritization, multitasking, and stress management.Good judgment, problem-solving, and communication skills in multicultural environments.Organized, analytical, autonomous, and capable of managing projects and external stakeholders.Other RequirementsFluency in English.Proficiency in Portuguese and Spanish desirable.Good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.DEI StatementDNDi values diversity, equity, and inclusion, encouraging applications from underrepresented groups, especially women, minorities, and those with protected characteristics.
