OverviewSchool of Music: Lecturer I – General MusicThe University of Texas Rio Grande Valley seeks applications for a Lecturer I in General Music to join the School of Music beginning Fall 2026. Primary responsibilities include teaching Music Theory, Ear Training, Music Appreciation, World Music, and other courses aligned with the candidate’s experience and expertise, as assigned by the Director of the School of Music. This position requires close collaboration with School of Music faculty and includes instructional responsibilities on both the Brownsville and Edinburg campuses. The successful candidate will carry the standard academic teaching load for a three-year appointment at the Lecturer I rank, equivalent to a 5/5 teaching load. The role requires collaboration with School of Music faculty and alignment with the university’s student success priorities.
Minimum Qualifications
MM, or equivalent in music, from an accredited university. Applicants will be considered if the degree will be complete by July 1, 2026.
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications
Experience teaching Music Theory/Sight singing and ear-training, Music Appreciation and World Music.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD and a record of successful teaching.

Salary Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience. All positions are subject to budget approval.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and subject to the Texas Education Code provisions. The retirement plan is the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), with the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) subject to the position’s hours and days. All positions are budgeted and subject to budget approval.
