Senior Critical Environment Technician - Night Shift at MicrosoftAs a Senior Critical Environment Technician (CET) in Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team, you will maintain the critical infrastructure that keeps our Datacenters up and running.
This could include coordinating with suppliers/vendors, working closely with Management to address operational, risk and safety situations, mentoring other CE Technicians, hands-on work with critical environment equipment, performing various maintenance activities, responding to onsite incidents while coordinating with other critical facilities professionals, and using telemetry and other platforms to monitor equipment performance and operations.Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) powers our cloud services.
As a CO+I Critical Environment Technician, you will play a key role in delivering core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform.

Recognizes safe vs. unsafe conditions, escalates unsafe conditions immediately, and promotes a safe working culture.
Participates in required meetings, trainings, and handoffs.
Identifies resources and equipment to support EHS objectives, maintains safe working conditions, and ensures safety and security for self and others.Equipment and Systems Maintenance – Performs maintenance (planned, predictive, corrective) and repairs for multiple disciplines and equipment types with increasing complexity, serving as a subject matter expert for one discipline.
Documents tasks, communicates/escalates maintenance activities, prioritizes work, and ensures follow-up.
Oversees complex tasks across disciplines and provides guidance to colleagues.
Plans, coordinates, and presents maintenance items for review and approval.Acts as a subject matter expert, troubleshooting multiple equipment, systems, subsystems, and components.
Documents issues, ensures parameter consistency, escalates to suppliers/engineers as needed, and mentors others in troubleshooting.Vendor and Contractor Coordination – Escorts third-party contractors and vendors on site, ensures work is safe and properly energized/deenergized, verifies scope and documentation, escalates as needed, coordinates scheduling, and resolves vendor quality issues.
May review vendor field service reports and invoices.Documentation and Process – Manages MSOW documents, coordinates activities with contractors, inspects equipment, participates in testing/commissioning, and advises engineers on scope and methodology.
Prepares complex reports and develops SOP/DMOPs for highly complex equipment to ensure safe, reliable execution.
Reviews work and coaches less experienced technicians.Equipment and Systems Operations – Works on complex tasks independently, serves as a topic expert for critical environments systems, leads and mentors others, and ensures safe operation of all systems across disciplines.
Responds to incidents, develops emergency operating procedures (EOPs), and leads incident response activities.Monitors equipment performance via telemetry and CMMS, tracks work orders and hours, and coaches teams on CMMS usage.
Performs monitoring, inspections, and validations of equipment, and uses data to identify trends and predictive maintenance needs.Safety and Compliance – Follows safety procedures, conducts risk-based inspections, and ensures compliance with procedures and policies.Physical Requirements – Occasional climbing of ladders, frequent stairs, prolonged standing, and occasional lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50-75 lbs with assistive devices.
Normal visual acuity and color vision are required for electrical work.Working Conditions – Personnel may work under elevated ambient noise, heat, and light due to equipment and ventilation systems.
Travel up to 25% may be required.QualificationsRequired/minimum qualificationsHigh School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.3+ years of experience in mission-critical services or equivalent environments (e.g., data centers, hospitals, refineries, manufacturing).1+ year of experience in a specialized area (e.g., mechanical, electrical, controls) or related field.Business-level English proficiency.Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including non-standard hours, evenings, nights, weekends, or holidays.Travel up to 25% as part of the role.Background Check RequirementsMust meet Microsoft and customer/security screening requirements, including Microsoft Cloud Background Check at hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.Additional or Preferred QualificationsAssociate's degree or technical trade certification with 4+ years of mission-critical experience; or high school diploma/GED with 5+ years of mission-critical experience; or equivalent.Microsoft is an equal opportunity employer.
