Reuters is seeking an experienced journalist to analyse global trends and their impact on the Japanese economy. This role involves delivering high-quality news articles and columns through comprehensive analysis of macroeconomic developments in an increasingly complex international economic environment.
The successful candidate will provide timely insights on how structural changes in the global economy—including U.S. policy developments, worldwide price trends, major central banks' monetary policies, and geopolitical risks—affect Japan's economy. The role includes both original reporting and managing external opinion pieces.
About the role
In this opportunity, you will:
* Research and write analytical articles on the implications of global events for the Japanese economy through interviews with officials and experts.
* Analyse and interpret complex economic data and trends and provide in-depth coverage of major economic events.
* Develop and maintain a network of sources and contacts in the economic and financial communities.
* Edit analytical content from team members and provide guidance on story planning and reporting.
* Coordinate and edit weekly opinion pieces from external columnists, including content planning.
About you
To be considered for the role, you will have:
* At least 10 years of experience as a reporter or editor.
* Ability to write news columns in Japanese.
* In-depth knowledge of economics and finance, preferably with experience covering Japanese economic agencies or the Bank of Japan.
* Interest in global affairs, with an eye on how world events impact Japanese politics, companies, and the economy.
* English communication skills.
* Ability to collaborate smoothly and effectively with colleagues to produce a robust and well-balanced news file.
