About the team
The Underwriting team is responsible for reviewing all new and existing insourced deals holistically by analyzing the merchants' compliance framework and risk controls, financial conditions, historical performance, and regulatory and legal environment.
What you will do
Evaluate merchant applications and supporting documentation to assess Merchant’s credit and reputational risk
Review financial statements and/or business tax returns and perform analysis to recommend merchant’s risk ratings
Analyze complex corporate structures, beneficial ownership and licensing requirements, coordinating with the Compliance and Legal teams as needed
Review industry information and comparisons, key risks and mitigants to form a general risk overview of merchants
Summarize analysis in concise credit memo and complete all required underwriting checklists
Underwrite according to applicable regulations, procedures, and guidelines
Conduct periodic reviews for existing merchants to facilitate ongoing risk monitoring and management
Maintain productivity standard goals as established by management
Assist the Commercial team with customer calls for larger merchants requiring explanation of specific credit risks, internal credit policies and/or underwriting decisions

Who you are
High level of English proficiency both in oral and written communication
Experience in a commercial underwriting role at a fintech, financial institution or payment service provider; experience underwriting complex multinational corporations is a plus
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related discipline required
Ability to analyze financial, bank, and processing statements to assess credit worthiness of merchants
Review complex corporate structures, licenses, and beneficial ownership, coordinating with the compliance and legal teams as needed
Familiarity with Know your Customer (KYC), Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and payment processing requirements in North America
Ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of data furnished in oral, written, or schedule form
Must be detail oriented, and able to manage and prioritize multiple tasks
Prior payment and Fintech experience is a plus
