Rio de Janeiro, BrazilJob Family Group: WellsWorker Type: RegularPosting Start Date: August 15, 2025Business unit: Integrated Gas and UpstreamExperience Level: Experienced ProfessionalsJob Description:What’s the roleThe Staff Operations Engineer (SWOE) will support CWI Operations primarily for ORCA Development and other ongoing well intervention activities from DG4 onwards, operationalizing planning and design into flawless execution. The team will ensure world-class execution through dedicated support, implementing procedural discipline, QA/QC on components and vendors, and coaching to elevate the general level of operational competency across teams.The Rig team is based both on- and offshore. The SWOE supports & works with both Lifecycle Engineering teams from Franchise Decision Point (DG3) to secure operations readiness and offshore operations teams by supplying dedicated expertise, coaching, and engineering support where and when needed as an integral part of the Operations group.What you’ll be doing:Report to the Well Operations Team Lead and work directly with the Lead Operations EngineerBase out of Rio De Janeiro - Ventura Office, with an office-based role and offshore trips as required for critical operationsOperationalize the design and execution plansDeliver world-class performance by embedding continuous improvement and standardization (Franchise) methodology as the new way of working to meet Well Objectives through strict adherence to Well Acceptance Criteria (WAC);Support portfolio-wide technology development to improve field operationsCollaborate with Lead Operations Engineer, Lifecycle Engineers, Operations, and Franchise teams to develop and implement work packages from Well design pre-DG4 through execution post-DG4, and communicate learnings into the Franchise FlywheelSupport regulatory applications to enable spud and manage regulatory engagement during well executionPerform final modeling checks against actual well parametersManage cost during execution as the Operations EngineerEnsure continuous learning from rig-specific operations and share insights across the project teamConduct vendor site visits with a focus on QA/QC during tool preparationSupport cost management during execution as a Staff Operations EngineerLead RCFA investigations and integrate Contract Management teams and the Wells Productive Time teamManage MOCs supporting operational changes that do not affect the Well Basis of Design (SHALL/shall)Escalate changes affecting Well Objectives or the Well Basis of Design to the Life Cycle Engineer for Management of ChangeSupport DWOP, AAR, and Well HO, and communicate execution-based learnings into the Franchise FlywheelIntegrate HSSE in the design, planning, and execution of operations; actively promote HSSE and Sustainable Development (SD) in all activities and ensure compliance with business principlesSupport the development of procedural disciplineContribute to Franchise development and implementation efforts within DW LoB as part of the Franchise System natural teamOperations:Work effectively with the Operations Team to support execution and establish daily communication during operationsIntegrate and liaise across disciplines to ensure safe, efficient, and effective execution of the work programProvide routine and emergency technical input and support for all well-related activities, both in the office and at the work site as requiredSupervise and ensure programs are executed safely and efficiently, fully honoring all company policies and proceduresCoordinate and support logistics to ensure operations are conducted safely, on time, and in accordance with execution programsEnsure deviations from execution programs occur only with the appropriate level of technical authorizationManage MOCs impacted by Franchise variations during execution under the accountability of the WOTLEnsure adherence to change management procedures in the event of program modifications (MOC)Conduct shop visits, audits, and vendor engagement with a Quality Assurance approach in alignment with Contract Management Teams and the Productive Time TeamWitness tool make-ups and tool loadouts, comparing actuals against plans to ensure successful field deployment (e.g., comparing schematics to actual HES Service Tool or WBCO Tools)Proactively identify shortcomings before job loadout and coach relevant teams to correct themAudit the maintenance of equipment commonly used to enhance reliabilityCoordinate SITs as needed, especially for tools or rig-ups that are new or infrequently usedDiscuss personnel requirements for the jobEnsure accurate reporting of all operations into EDMEnsure accurate cost reporting and monitoring of all operational activities both in the office and at the well siteParticipate in or lead After-Action Reviews to capture and share lessons learned from operational execution, in line with the GWDP and input into the appropriate WEIS funnelsCoordinate and facilitate AARs, closing the feedback loop through the Franchise FlywheelLead Root Cause Failure Analysis, working with the Productive Time Team, Lifecycle Engineering, Franchise, AWT, and vendors to close learnings and implement changesWhat we need from youMust have legal authorization to work in Brazil on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employerMust have 7 - 10 years’ experience in completions and well interventions operations with preference to smart completion deploymentsTechnical degree in Mechanical/Chemical/Petroleum engineering or any relevant engineering fieldDesign Experience with use of Wells Design tools such as WELLCAT, WELLPLAN, COMPASS etc. is an assetPossession of (or ability to acquire) IWCF/IADC and Advanced Well Control certification as well as Tropical HUET CA-EBS (or BOSIET CA-EBS)Commercial skills: Project management skills, a proponent of Strategic Cost Leadership, understanding of commercial implications of emerging ways of working, techniques, and technologiesPeople Skills: strong relationship skills and ability to influence and coach across the natural teamBe responsible for your own development and will execute an individual development plan agreed with the Well Ops Team LeaderStrengthening presentation and communication skillsAbility to work and manage across a diverse, multi-cultural environmentMaximizing value to the assigned asset while embracing HSSE and E&C standardsWhat we offerYou bring your skills and experience to Shell and in return you work with talented, committed people on one of the most important challenges facing our planet.
