Government Affairs Director Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and implement government affairs strategies in the Northeast region.
* Represent the company with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators, and other key stakeholders.
* Oversee and direct external representation in meetings, public forums, hearings, and coalition discussions.
* Create and deliver policy materials, including testimony, position papers, and public communications.
Stakeholder Relationship Management:
* Build and maintain influential relationships with trade associations, coalitions, policymaker organizations, legislators, governors, and AGs.
* Provide oversight and direction to external consultants and lobbyists.
Policy Development & Political Engagement:
* Anticipate, monitor, and analyze legislation and regulation in the Northeast region affecting our business priorities.
* Partner with internal leaders to ensure alignment between business priorities and public policy goals.
* Lead the design and evolution of our political giving strategy and broader political engagement initiatives.
* Spearhead coalition-building efforts on key policy issues critical to our growth and customers.
Thought Leadership:
Requirements:
* 12+ years of experience in state government affairs and public policy.
* Deep understanding of political and regulatory processes in the Northeast U.S. states.
* Demonstrated leadership experience in New York State preferred.
* Proven track record of shaping and achieving results with state legislatures, governor's offices, regulatory boards, and trade associations.
* Exceptional strategic thinking, writing, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
* High political acumen with significant experience designing and executing political engagement and giving strategies.
* Demonstrated ability to operate as a senior leader in a fast-paced mission-driven highly collaborative environment.
