Monthly salary: $1,000 - $1,500 USD
Along with our partner, we are seeking a UX/UI Designer for a short-term contract (5–6 weeks at a part-time capacity) to support the design and evolution of a touch-first iPad application used by laboratory scientists to control equipment and analyze data in real time. The product is designed for non-expert users in lab environments and prioritizes speed, clarity, and reproducibility over visual complexity.
This engagement has two primary goals: defining UX for new feature development and supporting the adoption of updated iOS design guidelines.
Scope of Work:
New Feature Wireframes
You will define wireframes and UX flows for new features prior to development, ensuring alignment between product and engineering teams. These include:
* A new navigation hub for multiple software modules, including clear handling of licensed vs. unlicensed states
* A time-series data acquisition feature with configuration, live feedback, and playback for multi-dimensional datasets
* Two new image analysis modules with consistent flows for launch, controls, results visualization, and save/discard actions
* Enhancements to an existing analysis module to support additional configurations
* A data export feature supporting multiple formats and destinations with error handling
iOS Design System Adoption
* Review existing screens against updated iOS Human Interface Guidelines
* Identify required updates for custom controls such as overlays, sliders, selectors, and timelines
* Propose adaptations to align with new system design patterns while maintaining a professional, lab-focused interface
* Ensure new designs are aligned with updated platform standards from the start
Expected Deliverables:
* Annotated low- to mid-fidelity wireframes for all new feature flows, approved by the product
* Design assessment and recommendations for updated iOS design system adoption
* Final design files delivered in a format usable by the iOS development team
Required Skills:
* 3+ years of experience as a UI/UX designer with robust experience designing for iPad applications.
* Apple Platform Mastery: Deep familiarity with Apple HIG specifically for iPad, including expert use of split views, sidebars, popovers, and touch-target optimization.
* iOS 26 Familiarity: Working knowledge of the Liquid Glass design system, including navigation bars, sheets, and modal presentations under the new paradigm.
* Wireframing & Tools: Senior-level experience in producing annotated, implementation-ready wireframes using tools such as Figma or Sketch.
* Scientific UI Experience: Experience designing interfaces where data precision and reproducibility are prioritized; prior work with medical, clinical, or industrial apps is a strong plus.
Team Fit & Work Style:
* Ability to work from written requirements without dedicated UX research support
* Self-directed and comfortable working in small teams
* Comfortable working within established design systems rather than creating new visual languages
* Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken
* Experience working in distributed remote teams and async environments
Nice to Have:
* Experience in laboratory, life sciences, or medical software
* Experience working with design systems within the Apple ecosystem
Engagement: Short-term contract, 5–6 weeks at a part-time capacity (80 hours per month) with PST work hours overlap.
Timeline: Project kick-off scheduled for early May
*Please note our partner is only looking for part-time dedicated team members who are eager to integrate within their team
