Embedded Linux Field Engineering Manager (Americas only)
Diversifying Canonical’s growing platform, we are looking for a senior Embedded Linux Field Engineering Manager to lead a regionally-focused team of Field Engineers in Presales and Professional Services Activities. This remote role will manage a team in the Americas geos and drive solution architecture, design and delivery for our enterprise customers.
Location: Remote – the manager will run a team located in one of three Geos (Americas, EMEA, or APAC) and will be based in the Americas to supervise that team across nearby time zones.
Responsibilities
Lead and develop a team of Field engineers, ranging from graduate to senior, in Presales and Professional Services.
Drive customer success by promoting our technologies and serving as a trusted advisor.
Coach, mentor, and provide career development feedback.
Identify and measure team health indicators.
Implement disciplined engineering processes.
Represent the team and products to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
Advocate best‑practice engineering and organisation culture.
Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects.
Collaborate with other leaders as part of the leadership team.
Qualifications
Exceptional academic track record from high school to university.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
Extensive embedded Linux experience (Yocto or equivalent).
Extensive experience with Linux distributions such as Debian or Ubuntu.
Proficiency in at least one programming language: Golang, Python, C, C++, or Rust.
Ability to manage a small team.
Experience in customer engagements (presales, professional services).
Professional written and spoken English.
Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
Result‑oriented with a drive to meet commitments.
Ability to communicate the business benefits of technology.
Humble learner and quick study.
Desirable Traits
Experience with RTOS.
Additional programming or human languages.
Previous experience in a remote‑first, diverse, distributed company.
