Overview
We are seeking a MySQL Database Engineer for Percona. This is a 100% remote, Americas-time-zone role with senior teammates to mentor you. It’s a mid-level position designed for growth, not an entry-level triage or call-center role.
Responsibilities
Hands-on knowledge of both MySQL and InnoDB
Familiarity with the MySQL ecosystem of tools and technologies
Performance tuning, query optimization, and index tuning
Experience with backup solutions (Xtrabackup, mydumper) and Point-in-Time Recovery
Experience with High Availability (replication, routers, proxies)
Exposure to zero-downtime procedures
Understanding of monitoring requirements
Administrating Linux-based systems
Methodical troubleshooting with the ability to apply fixes and think creatively for complex issues
Self-motivated and eager to learn new technologies as the industry evolves
Availability to travel occasionally for team meetings, conferences, or customer visits
Experience working with customers in English
Preferred qualifications
Experience in SLA-bound operations
Open Source community contributions (e.g., a blog)
Proficiency with screen-sharing/phone collaboration
Knowledge of any of the following technologies:
Galera / XtraDB Cluster / ProxySQL / Orchestrator
Cloud services (AWS and RDS, Azure, GCP)
Percona Monitoring & Management (PMM) and other monitoring tools
Configuration management (Ansible, Puppet or Chef)
Percona Toolkit
MySQL DBA, professional certifications
MongoDB
PostgreSQL
MyRocks
Kubernetes / OpenShift / Docker
Advanced Linux troubleshooting tools (gdb, perf, strace, bpftrace, tcpdump, etc)
Location
Remote, work from home position anywhere in the Americas. 5-day work week (including weekend). On-call participation with the team. Occasional travel to company events, conferences, etc.
