This Opportunity: Lead a team of inspectors in conducting thorough evaluations of bridge conditions, ensuring compliance with National Bridge Inspection Standards and AASHTO Manual for Condition Evaluation of Bridges. Assist the District's bridge inspection TEC Lead in business development and winning bridge inspection and repair work for VDOT and other transportation agencies.
* Plan, schedule, and perform PennDOT bridge inspections according to specific Bridge Owners' requirements, while maintaining strict adherence to NBIS and AASHTO standards.
* Liaison with client field/facility staff to communicate critical condition findings, lead/assist with communication and direct other field team members.
* Enforce safe operations in the field and ensure technical compliance with all applicable standards and specifications.
* Create or assist with creating and reviewing all required inspection reports, support the Mid-Atlantic District and National Bridge Inspection group in performing bridge, ancillary, culvert inspections in different jurisdictions as required.
* Support the preparation of proposals, tasks, reports, and other documents.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
* Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
* 10+ years of experience in bridge inspection (NBIS) with PennDOT and other transportation clients.
* Project Manager/Team Leader in PA and other states as necessary.
* Extensive successful management of bridge inspection projects for PennDOT.
* Attendance of NHI Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges course and additional PennDOT mandated courses/trainings.
* Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
* Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
* Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
* Physically capable of performing continuous field work including working at heights and in close quarters, climbing, carrying ladders and gear, working in adverse weather conditions, etc.
* Excellent attention to detail and ability to think critically and solve problems.
* Ability to work well in team-oriented structure.
* Valid, unrestricted driver's license.
* Ability to supervise, train and direct the work of team members.
* Cognizant of time and budget management.
* Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
