Our commitment to developing global citizens extends beyond academics, fostering growth in every aspect of our students' lives.Overview of Middle School Mathematics Teacher PositionThe Historic Downtown Campus of Moravian Academy is seeking a passionate and dynamic Middle School mathematics teacher. This teacher is responsible for designing and delivering mathematics courses to serve middle school students in grades 6-8. The successful candidate will collaborate with the other department and grade-level teachers in supporting all students to reach their full potential. Ideal candidates will understand the developmental needs of middle school learners and create a supportive environment that fosters confidence, curiosity, and meaningful learning. Additional responsibilities may include leading an advisory, teaching electives, and contributing to all aspects of our student-centered middle school community. This position reports to the Director of the Downtown Campus.ResponsibilitiesEffective Instruction: Design and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate mathematics lessons for students in grades 6-8. Courses may include Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry. Instruction should be grounded in research-based strategies for mathematical thinking and aligned with national standards for middle school mathematics.Differentiated Learning: Adapt instruction and assessments to meet the varied proficiency levels, learning styles, and individual needs of students, fostering a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.Student-Centered Practices: Facilitate hands-on exploration, student collaboration, and inquiry-based experiences that promote curiosity, problem-solving, and a deep understanding of mathematical concepts.Collaborative Teaching: Partner with colleagues across disciplines and campuses to support interdisciplinary connections and enhance student learning through shared themes and cross-curricular projects.Student Development: Support students' growth as confident mathematical thinkers and problem-solvers by promoting risk-taking, curiosity, and a growth mindset. Demonstrate an understanding of the developmental stages of middle school students, attending to both academic and social-emotional needs.Assessment and Feedback: Use a variety of formative and summative assessments to monitor and evaluate student progress. Provide timely, constructive feedback to students and families and maintain accurate records of student achievement. Write comprehensive narrative reports each trimester.Family Communication: Establish and maintain meaningful partnerships with families through regular updates, parent conferences, and effective use of school-supported communication tools.Advisory Role: Serve as an advisor or co-advisor to a small group of middle school students, guiding their academic, social, and emotional development through daily check-ins, structured programming, and consistent relationship-building.Community Engagement: Actively participate in the life of the school by engaging in electives, student events, and extracurricular activities. Attend and contribute to faculty meetings, grade-level team meetings, and cross-divisional initiatives.
