AIDS HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION (AHF) is a global nonprofit organization providing cutting-edge medicine and advocacy to more than 2,000,000 people in 47 countries.

Founded in 1987, it is currently the largest provider of medical care in response to HIV and AIDS internationally.


AHF is currently seeking an Advocacy Director who will be responsible for the timely and structured management of policy change throughout the entire bureau, with a focus on increasing access to treatment, rapid testing, and condoms through advocacy and marketing strategies in all of the following countries:

* Argentina
* Brazil
* Chile
* Colombia
* Dominican Republic
* El Salvador
* Guatemala
* Jamaica
* Mexico
* Peru
* Panama


The Advocacy Director - LAC leads, directs, manages, and evaluates all advocacy plans, including, but not limited to, the budget submitted by the Country Program Managers of each of the Latin America and Caribbean bureau countries.


This is a great opportunity for a candidate who is looking to give-back to the community affected by HIV/AIDS and the position can be based out of any of the countries we currently operate. Candidates who are based in any of these countries are encouraged to apply.


* Leads the Latin America and Caribbean bureau in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the advocacy and policy change agenda and promotes AHF's work at the national and regional levels.
* Supervises and coordinates country teams in the development of their advocacy plans and the related budget. Reviews and comments on all advocacy plans developed by AHF's Latin America and Caribbean bureau teams. Compiles and presents all plans to the Bureau Chief for additional comments and approval before submitting them to the Global Advocacy and Marketing Department for final comments and approval.
* The Advocacy Director – LAC will lead our high-level advocacy and policy activities on HIV prevention, testing, OI/ART, global public health issues and policy change provisions in the country.
* Identify and direct research on relevant HIV policy development, write policy briefs, and briefings.
* Plans, develops, and monitors the implementation of the advocacy strategy in accordance with AHF's mission and core values.
* Coordinates with the Global Marketing and Advocacy Department on various global advocacy topics and follow-up actions.
* Conducts advocacy trips to all countries of the AHF Latin America and the Caribbean bureau, provides training to country teams and their partners, identifies advocacy priorities, and assists with the development action plan.
* Coordinates and communicates AHF's advocacy and policy change programs with other regional and national development networks, key decision-makers and policymakers, and engages with national and regional media.
* Establishes appropriate partnerships with other organizations to develop policies related to AHF's advocacy agenda.
* Promotes AHF's work at the international, national, and regional levels.
* Maintains good working relationships with AHF partners and external agencies.
* Provides information on funding opportunities to support advocacy and partnership work in the region.
* Collaborate with other Latin America and Caribbean bureau directors to coordinate and resolve advocacy issues. The Advocacy Director engages with and must work together with all the departments to build the strategy and advocacy plan for the region and the countries.
* Monitors advocacy-related expenditures at the office and all country teams.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

* Bachelor’s degree in social sciences such as Political Science, Law, Sociology, among other related fields.
* A master’s degree or diploma in gender studies, public health policy, Latin American health policy studies, community development and empowerment, or proven experience in these fields is preferred.
* 3 to 5 years of experience in Advocacy at country and regional level.
* Experience leading teams
* Experience in direct supervision


REQUIRED SKILLS

* Advanced bilingual skills in English and Spanish are required.
* Ability to strategically plan and implement various scenarios to achieve changes in public health policies in Latin American and Caribbean countries.
* Efficient use of technological tools to achieve efficient communication and interaction with multiple organizations, social mobilization, and strengthening networks with other NGOs.
* Knowledge and experience in lobbying legislators and decision-makers.
* Ability to make strategic decisions.
* Inspirational leadership.
* Creativity and capacity for innovation.
* Analytical mindset to make informed decisions and take action.
* Must have a valid passport and a US visa, as this visa currently facilitates travel between countries in the region. Ability to travel 50% of the time.

AHF is seeking for a candidate for this role to be based in any of the countries we operate.
