Someone curious about data and passionate about the businessYou have a mixture of multidisciplinary skills ranging from an intersection of mathematics, statistics, computer science, automotive engineering, communication and business. You know about data technology and programming, data mining and machine learning.You will work together with a group of data engineers, scientists, analysts and simulation engineers. Our main job is to transform Big Data transmitted through telematics by our products into knowledge to support the development of new products and services.About usPowertrain Engineering is contributing to the Volvo Group's competitive position in the marketplace by developing and maintaining profitable products and product components in terms of quality, delivery, cost, and feature, and that comply with all applicable regulatory requirements. Our scope of work includes engineering and design of engines, gearboxes, axles, hybrid technology, and driveline, based on common architecture and shared technology.Data Analytics, Virtual Simulation and Application Engineering is part of the Powertrain Engineering Application Center in Curitiba and is responsible for simulation and data analytics. This covers structural, energy, fluid, function, and control systems simulations, as well as the analysis of telematics data from our connected vehicles.Digital transformation is a priority in our strategy, and within this context, the data analytics team plays an important role by accelerating the development of products and services. We collaborate with our colleagues in Gothenburg (Sweden), Lyon (France), Hagerstown (USA), and Bangalore (India).Job SummaryAs a Specialist Data Scientist in our team, your main purpose is to create value from data. You will have the opportunity to analyze and solve real-world problems with state-of-the-art techniques like Advanced Analytics, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Machine Learning, and Generative AI.Our team supports the development of global products and services, so you will encounter a wide range of projects and data sources. You will be responsible for accelerating and increasing assertiveness within all powertrain areas:
medium and heavy-duty diesel engines, transmissions, rear axles, and other components. Since data without context is not meaningful, a curious mindset and willingness to learn more about the automotive industry are essential.Accountabilities and ResponsibilitiesLead and plan data-related activities in large-scale projects for new products and services.Serve as a key account organizer between Powertrain Engineering and Volvo Group brands for services.Maintain strong communication with project managers, SW developers, calibration engineers, test engineers, and simulation engineers.Manage tasks following agile and waterfall principles.Perform data mining and analysis, applying statistics, machine learning, and AI models to reveal patterns and trends.Analyze and present data in a clear, visual manner.Identify and integrate new datasets to leverage product capabilities, working closely with engineering teams.Collaborate with data and application engineers to implement analytical models and transform data into decision-making tools.Participate in global Communities of Practices.Education, Experience, Knowledge, and SkillsDegree in Computer, Mechanical, Control Systems, Electronics Engineering or related.Experience as a Data Scientist, especially in product and service development.Strong planning skills in cross-functional, data-related activities in both agile and waterfall environments.Experience in the automotive industry and with vehicle-connected data is a strong advantage.Experience analyzing large real-world datasets.Programming skills in Python, SQL, and DAX, with experience in version control tools like Bitbucket and Git.Knowledge of machine learning methods:
unsupervised, supervised, reinforcement learning.Experience with Artificial Intelligence is a plus.Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Power BI.Strong communication skills in Portuguese and English, both spoken and written.A commercial vehicle driver's license is preferred but not mandatory.Behavioral CompetenciesAct according to our values:
