At Memory Ware, we build games that value narrative depth, mechanical clarity, and emotional resonance.
Our levels aren't just places to walk through; they're spaces that tell stories, hold tension, and guide players through meaningful interactions.
We're looking for a Level Designer who can craft tight, expressive, and system-aware environments for our JRPG-inspired projects.
This includes exploration maps, combat encounters, and narrative set-pieces, all with a strong sense of pacing, player flow, and readability.
As a Level Designer on our team, you'll work closely with game designers, writers, artists, and engineers to bring the world of the game to life.
You'll be responsible for defining the rhythm, structure, and gameplay potential of the spaces players explore, ensuring that every corner feels purposeful and every step supports the experience we want to create.
What You'll Do
1. Block out exterior and interior 3D spaces for optimal layout, flow, sightlines, and gameplay.
2. Develop engaging and innovative game levels that seamlessly integrate gameplay mechanics with narrative elements, adhering to the game's core principles.
3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Art and Narrative departments, to ensure a cohesive and immersive game experience.
4. Participate in discussions with other designers and stakeholders, ensuring levels meet quality standards and align with pacing and player experience goals.
5. Utilize your proficiency in level design tools and software, particularly Unity, to create and iterate on level layouts.
6. Maintain a balance between creative aspirations and practical constraints like timelines and technical limitations.
7. Produce detailed documentation for game levels, providing clear guidelines for the team.
What We're Looking For
* Experience designing levels for exploration, narrative progression, or tactical encounters.
* Strong sense of space, flow, player guidance, and pacing.
* Ability to prototype and iterate in a 3D environment using Unity.
* Deep empathy for the player experience, especially how exploration and story interweave.
* Familiarity with JRPG structure (e.g., dungeon design, overworld pacing, town/dungeon rhythm).
* Comfortable working independently and collaboratively with cross-disciplinary teams.
Bonus Points For
* Experience designing turn-based combat spaces and encounters.
* Understanding of environmental storytelling, visual composition, and spatial narrative.
* Technical knowledge of camera scripting, trigger systems, or modular asset workflows.
* Loving games that blend mechanical depth with emotional storytelling.
