**Project Overview**:
Bechtel with our joint venture partner are pursuing a large pumped storage hydropower prospect in Serbia. The project is designed to help balance the electrical network, providing storage capacity that enables water to be pumped and stored in the upper reservoirs at periods of low demand and generating power by passing flow through turbines and back into the Danube at periods of higher demand.
**Job Summary**:
In support of our plans to further develop this project, the Project Engineering Manager will participate in all stages of the project lifecycle, including conceptual design, FEED, detailed design, and project execution. The Project Engineering Manager will contribute to technical feasibility studies, value engineering, cost development and strategic planning for the project. Reports to the Project Manager and/or the Functional Manager of Engineering.
This is an engineering leadership position and as such will be expected to manage relationships with customers and key stakeholders and to build collaborative teams with JV partners and suppliers.
**Major Responsibilities**:
- Provides technical insight and value engineering during development of engineering designs.
- Coordinates technical scope with Construction and Procurement Functions.
- Manages multi-discipline team executing conceptual design, FEED and project execution.
- Chair project technical meetings as appropriate to manage progress, design coordination, supplier and stakeholder interfaces, customer reviews and approvals.
- Act as the technical representative for the design consultant's contract supporting Supply Chain in the administration of the contract.
- Work with construction teams to develop solutions that integrate constructability recommendations into designs.
- Provides leadership and inspires performance of the project team.
**Education and Experience Requirements**:
- BSc / MSc / BEng / MEng Degree in Geotechnical, Civil, Hydraulic, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with 13+ years of relevant experience
**Required Knowledge and Skills**:
- Professional Engineering License or Chartered Engineer preferred.
- Experience of design development, feasibility studies, detailed design and/or owner's engineering work (technical specifications, tender evaluations, design review, construction supervision).
- Sufficient demonstrable professional experience in the hydropower or water industry, ideally with an international developer, consultant or contractor.
- Demonstrable engineering skills and experience including civil structures, dams, tunnels, generation plant and powerhouse complexes.
- Experience of planning process and environmental assessments
- Specific areas of technical expertise would be viewed positively:
- Large hydropower or pumped storage design and construction.
- Experience of dams and large hydraulic structures.
- Knowledge of geology and geotechnics.
- Tunnelling and underground works experience.
- Experience with design and integration of M&E equipment.
- Experience with layout and construction planning of major hydropower or pumped storage projects.
- Management of multidisciplinary teams, including engineering, procurement, construction
