Development and Projects Engineer Are you an experienced infrastructure professional looking for a diverse and rewarding role in local government? Join our Asset & Infrastructure Team and play a key role in protecting and enhancing Council’s infrastructure interests across the district.
About the Role As a Development and Projects Engineer you will be responsible and accountable for ensuring Council’s infrastructure interests are effectively represented and protected through subdivision and land development processes. Approximately 50% of your time will be focused on land development engineering, with the remaining time dedicated to the investigation, design, procurement, and delivery of renewals and capital projects.
This balance may vary depending on development activity within the district. Key Responsibilities Land Development & Subdivision
Provide infrastructure input into resource consent and building consent application reviews
Ensure the needs of portfolio managers — particularly Transport & Infrastructure and Water Services — are captured and addressed
Ensure compliance with NZS4404 and Council-specific design standards
Support proactive infrastructure planning related to growth and development
Ensure assets created through development are accurately captured and updated in Council’s asset management systems
Investigate, design, procure and deliver renewal and capital projects
Oversee project delivery to ensure quality, compliance, and value for money
About You You will bring:
Strong understanding of the Resource Management Act and District Plans
Experience in land development engineering and/or infrastructure project delivery
Strong understanding of NZS4404 and infrastructure design standards
Knowledge of asset management principles and systems
Sound project management and procurement capability
The ability to work collaboratively across teams and manage competing priorities
