Progress Rail is seeking a motivated and skilled Cloud Engineer to join its dynamic team. This position plays a key role in building scalable and reliable cloud infrastructure that powers our innovative rail technology solutions. This is a full-time remote position reporting directly to the Director of ATO Software Engineering. The role demands independent judgment, problem-solving skills, resourcefulness, and the ability to navigate ambiguity with creativity and initiative. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a solid background in cloud technologies, data integration, and system architecture. They demonstrate strong attention to detail, technical proficiency, and thrive in collaborative, fast-paced environments.
Job Purpose:
In this role, the candidate will support the Advanced Rail Technology sector by designing, developing, and maintaining cloud-based ETL/ELT pipelines, APIs, and systems that enable the delivery of real-time railroad data to customers.

Job Responsibilities:
Technical & Development:
* Maintain and enhance the ETL/ELT and API systems.
* Ensure the systems are highly available, scalable, and performant.
* Work with Amazon AWS services to deploy, monitor, and manage the systems.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement new features.
* Troubleshoot and resolve issues in the production environment.
* Optimize the performance of the systems and ensure they meet security standards.
* Document the design, implementation, and operation of the systems.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Communication:
* Provide technical support and detailed reporting on project statuses to leadership and internal stakeholders.
* Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment, participating in requirements analysis, design reviews, and code walkthroughs.
* Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation throughout the SDLC.
Technical Skill
* Experience in backend development with Python.
* Strong software engineering fundamentals;
* Proven experience with ETL systems and API microservices development.
* Experience with implementing automated testing platforms and unit tests.
* Strong knowledge of AWS services and cloud architecture.
* Experience working in Agile teams, with familiarity using tools such as JIRA.
* Experience with OpenSearch, Redis, MongoDB, Docker, and WebSocket's.
* Experience with CI/CD pipelines and source code management tools.
* Familiarity with container orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
* Deep understanding of microservices architecture.
* Experience with monitoring and logging tools.
* Familiarity with video streaming services and Java/ SpringBoot is a plus
Required Education
Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
Language:
Advanced English. Direct interface with global teams. Reporting to a director in the US.
