Primary Purpose of the PositionThe Upper School Music Teacher (Band) directs and inspires students in the study, performance, and appreciation of music. The teacher provides engaging instruction that develops musical skills, fosters creativity, and encourages collaboration, while promoting the values and mission of the school. The role includes organizing high-quality performances, building community engagement through music, and developing a vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable band program.Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesTeach and direct music ensembles across MS/HS grade levels, preparing them for concerts, festivals, and school/community events.Develop and deliver a curriculum that integrates performance, improvisation, theory, and history.Provide differentiated instruction to meet the needs of students with varied musical backgrounds and abilities.Facilitate a learning environment that encourages exploration, improvisation, and collaboration.Use a variety of assessment tools to monitor student progress, providing feedback that supports growth and musical excellence.Organize, plan, and lead concerts, tours, and public performances, ensuring high-quality productions.Collaborate with other music and arts faculty to align curriculum, foster interdisciplinary learning opportunities, and help support the annual musical production.Maintain school-owned instruments, equipment, and sheet music library.Support students in pursuing individual or small group performance opportunities.Engage with parents, colleagues, and the wider school community to promote the program and celebrate student achievements.Certifications and Education - RequiredBachelor's degree in Music Education or related field.Teaching certification/license (valid in the U.S. or internationally recognized equivalent).DesiredMaster's degree in Music Education, Band/Instrumental Music, or related field.Certification in instrumental music instruction, ensemble leadership, or band/music pedagogy.Experience - RequiredMinimum of five years of classroom and/or ensemble teaching experience.Proven experience directing band ensembles or small groups, including programming concerts and events.DesiredInternational teaching experience or experience in diverse educational settings.Professional performance experience as a band musician.Experience with music technology and digital tools for composition and rehearsal.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - RequiredStrong knowledge of music repertoire, history, and improvisational practices.Ability to teach multiple instruments within the band (e.g., brass, woodwinds, rhythm section).Skilled in arranging and adapting music for varied student ensembles.Strong communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate students.Capacity to create a safe, inclusive, and student-centered learning environmentDesiredFamiliarity with international music curricula (e.g., IB, or similar).Proficiency with music technology (notation software, digital audio workstations, rehearsal apps).Ability to mentor students in composition, arranging, and recording projects.Escolaridade Mínima: Pós-graduação - Especialização/MBA
